How to Use a PWM-to-Voltage Converter Module

When using some ESCs, you may encounter the following situation:

The remote controller/receiver outputs a PWM signal, but the ESC requires a 0–5V voltage signal.

These two signal types cannot be directly matched. In this case, a PWM-to-Voltage Converter Module is required.

When Do You Need a PWM-to-Voltage Converter?

You need to use a PWM-to-voltage converter when:

• Remote controller/receiver: outputs a PWM signal

• ESC: requires a 0–5V voltage signal

For example, some BP series ESCs are controlled by a 0–5V voltage signal, while the receiver outputs a PWM signal.

In this case, the connection should be:

Remote Controller → Receiver → PWM-to-Voltage Converter → ESC → Thruster

How to Connect the PWM-to-Voltage Converter

The connection can be understood as follows:

① Remote Controller

Operate the throttle on the remote controller to send the control signal.

↓

② Receiver

Receives the signal from the remote controller and outputs a PWM signal.

↓

③ PWM-to-Voltage Converter

Converts the PWM signal from the receiver into a voltage signal.

↓

④ ESC

Receives the converted 0–5V voltage signal.

↓

⑤ Thruster

The ESC controls the thruster according to the control signal.

Wiring

The PWM-to-voltage converter generally needs to be connected as follows:

Power → Power supply for the converter
GND → Signal ground
PWM IN → PWM signal output from the receiver
Voltage OUT → 0–5V signal input of the ESC

The interface labels may vary depending on the converter model. Please follow the labels on the module when making the connections.

How to Use It

Step 1: Turn on the remote controller and receiver.

Step 2: Make sure the PWM-to-voltage converter is powered properly.

Step 3: Connect the PWM signal from the receiver to the PWM input of the converter.

Step 4: Connect the voltage output of the converter to the ESC's 0–5V signal input.

Step 5: Power the ESC and thruster.

Step 6: Operate the throttle on the remote controller and check whether the thruster responds correctly.

In simple terms:

Remote controller sends a PWM signal → PWM-to-voltage converter converts the signal → 0–5V voltage signal is output → ESC receives the signal → ESC controls the thruster.

If the ESC already supports PWM input, a PWM-to-voltage converter is not required.
